Jesse D. ‘JD’ Wigley – Obituary

Jesse D. ‘JD’ Wigley, 104, of Mobile, passed away February 17. Mr. Wigley was the last of eight children and a native of Attala Co., Mississippi. He was predeceased by his wife, Lou Wigley, and an infant son.  He is survived by many nieces and nephews.

JD Wigley graduated from Mississippi State University in 1936 with a BS in Agriculture Education, and received a Master’s Degree in AG Sciences in 1950 from Auburn University.

JD loved Huntsville and the students that he taught.  He never forgot them. He taught Vocational Agriculture at Riverton High School, and Buckhorn High School for a number of years.  He also taught at Alabama A&M.  He was a teacher, mentor and friend to all of his students.  He was very active in Future Farmers of America (FFA).  In 2009, many of his students nominated him for the FFA Wall of Honor at Auburn University.  At the age of 97, JD’s name was placed on the Wall.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Thursday, February 23 at Laughlin Service Funeral Home. A graveside service will follow at 1 p.m. at Maple Hill Cemetery.
