Jerry Wayne Burt, 79, of Fort Payne, passed away Tuesday, December 16, 2025. Mr. Burt was a 1964 graduate of Collinsville High School and retired from Cherokee Hosiery Mill. He attended First Methodist Church of Fort Payne and enjoyed working as their facilities manager part time. Over the past 6 months, Jerry made his home at Wills Creek Assisted Living, where he was well cared for and made many new friends. Jerry never met a stranger and loved helping others.
Funeral services will be 12 noon, Thursday, December 18th at Wilson Funeral Home with Rev. Jeff Tate officiating. Burial will follow in Glenwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday from 10 a.m. until the 12 noon hour of service. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the First Methodist Church Building Maintenance fund, 206 Grand Avenue SW, Fort Payne, AL 35967.
He is survived by his son Michael Burt (Heather) and daughter Melissa Harrison (Ronnie); grandchildren Carson, Sawyer, and Marleigh Burt and Nathan (Abby), Kimberly, Caleb and David Harrison; sisters-in-law Marie Burt and Geana Johnson; brother-in-law Jack Ashley (Christine); and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife Callie Sue Ashley Burt, parents Ward and Pauline Burt, and brother Stanley Burt.
Wilson Funeral Home and Crematory of Fort Payne is in charge of services.
