Jerry Sweatt was born September 1, 1941 in Selmer, TN, the son of the late Melton Sweatt and Georgie Wagoner Rickman. He graduated from Selmer High School in 1960. He was united in marriage to Judy May on May 6, 1961. Jerry had worked as a heavy equipment operator and also served as a certified welder and millwright for Daniel’s Construction. His dedication extended to the McNairy County Board of Education, where he contributed as a metals instructor at Adamsville High School. He was a Mason, member of the Selmer Lodge 338.
Beyond his professional pursuits, Jerry had a profound passion for racking and walking horses. His love for these magnificent animals was evident in his impressive achievements, including three World Grand Champion titles, which he earned through hard work and perseverance.
Mr. Sweatt departed this life on October 4, 2024 in Selmer, Tennessee at the age of 83 Years, 1 Month, 3 Days.
He is survived by his wife Judy Sweatt of Selmer, TN; a daughter, Ann Burks and husband Phillip of Bethel Springs, TN; three grandchildren: Anthony Lambert and wife Hannah of Selmer, TN, Brandon Lambert and wife Allison, Chelse Parker and husband Eddie of Brandon, MS; six great grandchildren: Nolan Lambert, Malcolm Lambert, Mason Lambert, Ella Lambert, Burkley Parker, Ansley Lambert; special nephew, Joe David Sweatt and wife Ashley of Selmer, TN.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Sweatt was preceded in death by a brother, Joe Dan Sweatt.
Special thanks to all his caregivers, because of their love and compassion, Jerry was able fulfill his wishes of staying at home during a difficult time.
