Jerry Self, age 84 of New Hope was born & raised on Gurley Pike a short distance from where he passed away at his home on Saturday.
He was preceded in death by father, Earlon Self; mother, Lucille Self Dilworth; brother, Kenneth Self; sister, Brenda Self and grandparents, Curtis & Florence Martin and Tommy & Mamie Self.
He is survived by wife Myrna; son, Steven Self; sisters, Faye Hunter Payton, Kathy (Bobby) Salmon, & Sherry (Eugene) Stiefel; grandchildren, Jeremy Self, Natalie (Paul) Lupo; great grandchildren Aleigha Self, Jude Self, Malachi Self and Holden Self; special aunt, Margie Self; bonus sons, Bill & Tim Lind and Alex, Emme and Charlie; several nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
Jerry was a hardworking man from early life, out of High School began working at Winn Dixie Grocery, ldeal Bread Company, route driver for Thrasher Oil Company and then owning a Shell Service Station for years. Later he and his brother Kenneth owned Master Cleaners locations in Huntsville and New Hope and owned and operated the car wash on Main Drive New Hope for years. Jerry was also on New Hope Telephone Coop Board for several years. Jerry had a great personality and was well known in the New Hope community. He will be extremely missed by family and friends.
Visitation will be Thursday 11am to 1pm at New Hope Funeral Home. Services will follow at 1:00 pm with David Freeman officiating. Pallbearers will be Jeremy Self, Terry Hunter, Jason Salmon, Eugene Stiefel, Smiley Baker and Daniel Knight. Honorary pallbearers will be Benny Webb, James Doran, Dickey Cloud and Dewayne Honea.
Interment will be in Hampton Cove Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family would like memorial donations to be made to American Heart Association.
