The funeral service for Jerry Griffin, age 76 of Ashland, will be held at 3:00 P.M. on Friday, March 15, 2019 at Benefield Funeral Home in Ashland, with Reverend Jerry Colquett and Rev. Pat Hurst officiating. Burial will follow in the Clay County Memory Gardens.

Mr. Griffin passed away at the Piedmont Medical Center in Atlanta on Tuesday, March 12, 2019. He was a lifelong resident of Clay County and after graduating from Lineville High School in 1960, he served as a cook in the Alabama Army National Guard with the William N. “Bill” Griffin unit in Goodwater. Mr. Griffin worked in the textile industry and delivered gas for J. B. Crews’ Gulf Oil Company and Superior Gas. He was the former owner of the Lineville Building Supply and a member of Lineville Baptist Church.

Mr. Griffin is survived by one son, Glenn Griffin of Atlanta; one daughter-in-law, Becky Turley of Ashland; two grandchildren: Damion and Adrina Slaughter of Ashland; two sisters: Ann McCay of Cookeville, TN and Janice Jenkins of Opelika and two brothers: Robert A. “Pete” Griffin Jr. (Katherine) of Lincoln and Harold Griffin (Phyllis) of Ashland.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Robert Alvin Griffin and Inez Ware Griffin; his wife, Susan Dianne Griffin; one son, Todd Griffin; three sisters: Juanita Stewart, Margaret Strickland, and Elizabeth Latham; and two brothers: Charles and William Griffin

Al Griffin, Ben Griffin, Bobby Vincent, Jeff Griffin, Anthony Kinder, and Danny Hill will serve as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends on Friday, March 15, 2019 at Benefield Funeral Home in Ashland from 1:00 p.m. until service time at 3:00 p.m.
