Jerry Floyd Merriman passed away Friday, October 16, 2020, at Maury Regional Hospital. A native of Wayne County, TN, Jerry was preceded in death by his father, Floyd Shields Merriman, as well as his sister, Bridget Merriman Berman. He is survived by his loving wife Laura Heller Merriman; son Robert Merriman (Kara) of Murfreesboro, TN; son Jonathan Merriman (Sandi) of Lawrenceburg, TN; and four grandchildren: Victoria Kennedy and Devyn Olivia Merriman and Scarlett Elizabeth and Jack Harris Merriman. His mother Bonnie Johnson Merriman and brother-in-law Irwin Berman also survive along with several cousins, nieces and nephews.

A graduate of Middle Tennessee State University, Jerry was an educator and coach in Lawrence and Wayne Counties. He was employed at Murray Ohio Manufacturing Company, was Human Resources Manager for Dura Automotive, and retired from the Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development. Additionally, Jerry served his country honorably in the United States Army Old Guard Honor Guard, 3rd United States Infantry Regiment.

Always generous with his time, Jerry served on the Board of Directors of both Lawrence County Chamber of Commerce and Lawrenceburg Golf and Country Club, was a charter member of Lawrenceburg Quarterback Club, and was a volunteer coach for David Crockett Elementary School, Sacred Heart Catholic School, and Lawrence County High School Wildcats.

A private graveside service and inurnment will be held at Shields Cemetery in Waynesboro, TN with Pastor Bill Adams officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials in his honor may be made to the Lawrence County High School Athletic Fund (Boys Basketball) or First United Methodist Church, Waynesboro, TN.
