Jerry Durant Abbott, 76, of Curry, passed away Tuesday, September 15, 2026, at St. Martin’s in the Pines. Family will receive friends Saturday, September 19, 2026, from 1 p.m. until 2p.m. at Kilgore-Green Funeral Home. Service will follow at 2 p.m. Joe Weldon and John Hardin will officiate.
Jerry was born on March 16, 1950, he was a lifelong resident of the community he loved. His life was defined by his warmth, outgoing nature, and deep joy for singing. His commitment to the service was a cornerstone of his life. Jerry proudly served in the U.S. Navy from 1970 to 1974. Beyond his service in the Navy, he was also in the National Guard, as well as a truck driver and miner. He will be remembered for his ability to strike up a conversation with anyone he met. He cherished the connections he made throughout his life and lived with an open heart. He leaves behind a legacy of music, friendship, and service that will be deeply missed.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Jillian Nicole Abbott; parents, John and Annisteen Abbott of Curry; an infant brother, Dewey Abbott of Jasper; sisters, Ann Harrod of Pell City and Cynthia Faith Abbott; grandparents, Huette and Gracie Estes, Lena E. Kilgo, and Marion C. Abbott.
He is survived by his wife, Kathy Abbott; children, John Abbott, Paul Abbott, and Kylie Abbott; brothers Wayne Abbott of Vinemont and Larry Abbott of Curry; sisters, Linda Robison of Birmingham, Joyce Ragsdale (Jerry) of Arley, Rita Bartlett of Cullman, and Tammy Jackson (Jared) of Fairburn, GA.
