Funeral Services for Mr. Jerry Christopher Smith, age 49 of Lineville, will be held on Monday, November 27, 2023 at Benefield Funeral Home in Lineville at 11:00 A.M. with Rev. Scott Epperson officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at the Clay County Memory Gardens.

Mr. Smith passed away on Thursday, November 23, 2023 at his home. He was born and raised in Clay County, attended Mellow Valley High School and graduated from Clay County High School. He joined the Navy right out of high school and served for 4 years. He was stationed in Alameda, California and Bremerton, Washington, and served on the U.S.S. Abraham Lincoln during Desert Storm. Chris received several awards and decorations, including the Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Kuwait Liberation Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, and the Sea Service Deployment Ribbon with Bronze Star just to name a few. Once he was out of the military, Chris worked with his father at Kitchen Accents, selling and installing cabinets. He eventually began driving a truck for Buddy Moore Trucking and lastly worked for Wellborn Cabinets. Chris enjoyed hunting, camping, reading and anything to do with sports. He enjoyed watching basketball and especially Auburn Football, and even tried to play Golf from time to time. He was a fun and outgoing person, always trying to be positive and inspire others. Chris had a big heart, and loved his wife, children, and grandchildren very much.

Mr. Smith is survived by his wife, April Phillips Smith of Lineville; two children: Cheyanne Smith of Ashland and Justin Smith (April) of Riverside; two granddaughters: Adaline and Arya Smith; his parents: Jerry and Sandra Smith; His grandmother, Frankie Smith of Sylacauga; his grandfather, Bobby Bullard of Sylacauga; three sisters: Christy Smith Lee of Blackshear, GA, Stephanie Smith of Anniston and Sierra Smith of Ashland, as well as other extended family.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather, William T. Smith; grandmother, Betty Reeves; one infant child; and his brother in law, Jesse Lee.

Active Pallbearers will be Justin Smith, Jeffery Phillips, Jaedon Smith, Koty Piercy, Robert Jones, and John Holmes. Honorary Pallbearers will be Anna Siggers and Tonya Smith.

His visitation will take place on Sunday, November 26, 2023 at Benefield Funeral Home in Lineville from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M.
