Jennie Sue Mckenzie, age 83, passed away peacefully at her home in Guntersville, Alabama, on July 31, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. Born on November 29, 1942, in Big Cove, Alabama, she was the daughter of the late Alberta and John D. Hone. Jennie was united in marriage to Harold Mckenzie, with whom she shared 44 wonderful years of marriage prior to his passing in 2007. A woman of strong faith, she was a former member of Black Oak Holiness Church and a current member of Rocky Branch Holiness Church.
Above all else, Jennie’s heart belonged to her family and her faith. She was deeply passionate about her loved ones and cherished every moment spent sitting outside in the sun, drinking coffee, enjoying a sweet treat, and sharing laughter with her family, as well as spending time with her beloved dog, Abigail.
Jennie was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Harold Mckenzie; her son, Benny Mckenzie; her parents, Alberta and John D. Hone; her brother, John D. Hone Jr.; and her four sisters, Ruby Howell, Alice Clark, Linda Landford, and Paula Gomez.
She leaves behind a legacy of love through her surviving children: David Gene Mckenzie; Debra Sue Sims and her husband, Bobby; Kathy Lynn Curtis and her husband, Phillip; Renee Rogers and her fiancé, Ronald Hawk; Timothy Mckenzie and his wife, Amanda; and Lisa Hallman and her husband Tom. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren, as well as many extended family members and friends.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Spry Funeral Home of Huntsville, where the family will receive friends Sunday, August 2, 2026, from 12:00 PM – 1:45 PM. The funeral service will follow in Spry Funeral Home’s Chapel at 2:00 PM, with Rev. James “Totchie” McLain and Rev. Royce Cornelison officiating. A private interment service for the family will take place on Monday.
