Jeanne Taylor Mulkins, 91, peacefully passed away Tuesday, September l9, 2018 at the North Mississippi Medical Center Hospice Unit. Jeanne was born November 28, 1926 in Okolona, the only child of the late Arthur Taylor and Claira Hayes Taylor, both of Okolona. Jeanne Lived a full and fruitful life, being loved by all who met her on life’s journey. She lived her last 29 years in the house her father built on Main Street. Jeanne dearly loved everyone and that love was returned to her many times. After graduating from Okolona High School in l944 where she was a member of the marching band, she attended the Mississippi State College for Women in Columbus, later attending and graduating from the University of Mississippi in Oxford. It was at Ole Miss that she met the love of her life, William “Bill” Mulkins and they married in Okolona at her parent’s home. They continued their education at Ole Miss where Bill played on the Rebel football team . Prior to attending Ole Miss, Bill served 3 years in the U. S. Navy in the Pacific Theatre during World War II as a Navy Combat Airman. After completing their educations, Bill and Jeanne returned to Okolona where they taught school for a brief period of time. Jeanne was a member of the Delta Gamma Sorority and a life member of Chuquatonchee Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Bill took a job with the Federal Bureau of Investigation, a career that spanned over 30 years and took the family to Boston, New York City and Nashville, Tenn. Three children were born to this union, William, Taylor and Clairann, all of whom survive. The children affirm their love and respect for their mother by saying what a splendid role model she was over the whole of her life for them to follow. Many words could be chosen to characterize her; kind, generous, compassionate, fun, cheerful, encouraging and hospitable to all. Jeanne was a longtime member of the Okolona Presbyterian Church. She will be deeply missed.
A service celebrating her life will be held at 2 PM, Monday, September 24, 2018 at the Okolona Presbyterian Church with Rev. H. B. Miller officiating. Burial will follow in the Taylor Family Plot at Oddfellows Cemetery in Okolona. Visitation will be from Noon-service time Monday all at the Church on Main St. A reception will follow the internment in the home of Jerry and Susie Morgan.
Survivors include her three children; William Mulkins, III (Christiane Kennin) of Killen, TX., Taylor Mulkins of Marietta, GA and Clairann Vaughan (Billy Stephen) of College Grove, TN; grandchildren, William Mulkins, IV (Elizabeth, Samantha Sharkey, Sean Mulkins (Melissa), Stephanie Vaughan, and Daniel Vaughan; one great granddaughter, Piper Mulkins. Jeanne was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
