Jeanne Marie Sandlin Smith Jeanne Marie Sandlin Smith, 91, of Huntsville, passed away at home on Wednesday with her son and home health care nurse by her side. Mrs. Smith was a lifelong resident of Huntsville. She was preceded in death by her father, Malcolmb Ford Sandlin, mother, Clara Mason Sandlin Parker, husband of 38 years, Ellis L. Smith, and son, Kenneth Ford Smith.

Survivors include her son, Ellis L. Smith, Jr. “Buddy” (Bobbie Jean Daniel); grandchildren, Martha Dannette Smith Wasserburger (Jesse) and Clinton Ellis Smith (Damaris); great-grandchildren, James Wesley, Logan Bryce, Brooklyn Amara, and Gavin Parker; three step great-grandsons; and her cat companion, “Moses”.

Mrs. Smith graduated from Huntsville High School in 1947. She received higher education diplomas, attending numerous colleges in relation to her work. She worked 38 plus years at MSFC/NASA as a program specialist, procurement analyst; and lab supervisor of the Astrionics Lab. She worked on projects involving the Apollo missions, the Saturn missions, the Luna Rover and Hubble telescope projects. She received many service awards for her excellent work.

Her hobbies included family, traveling, history, coin collecting and genealogy. She was a certified genealogist, a board member of the Tennessee Valley Geneological Society, and was a member of several historical organizations.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 10 at Laughlin Service Funeral Home. The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Scott Kowerduck officiating. Burial will be in Valhalla Memory Gardens.

Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
