Jeanette Hopper Carr Winkler – Obituary

Mrs.jeanette, 89, died Tuesday, March 29, 2016 at North MS Medical Center following an extended illness. She was born August 21, 1926 in Porterville, MS to Albert C. Hopper and Winona Hamner Hopper. Jeanette was a graduate of Lauderdale High School. She continued her studies at William Carey College earning a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree, and Mississippi University for Women where she earned her Master of Science in Nursing degree.

Jeanette shared her knowledge of science as an RN Instructor, over-seeing the Nursing program at Itawamba Community College for 23 years. During her time there she was listed as “Most Caring Instructor” at ICC, and a “Jeanette Carr Winkler Caring Award” to the most caring student was established in her name. Jeanette was very talented with her hands and enjoyed arranging flowers for the Alter Guild at All Saints Episcopal Church for many years where she was an active member. She also loved birds of all species. She was well loved and respected by everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.

A service honoring her life will be at 1:00 p.m., Friday, April 1, 2016 in the Sanctuary of All Saints Episcopal Church with Father Paul Stephens officiating. An inurnment will follow at All Saints Columbarium. Receiving of friends will be from 11:30 a.m. to service time in the Parish Hall. Survivors include her husband of ten years, Dr. Marion Winkler of Tupelo; children, Stennis Watson (Barbara) of Richardson, TX and Janet Watson of Memphis, TN; step-children, Marion Winkler, III (Jean) of Redstone, CO and Elizabeth McKay (Mark) of Jefferson, TX; brother, Ike Hopper (Betty) of Porterville, MS; sisters, Madge Geotsi of Picayune and Bernice Guest of Orlando, FL; five step-grandchildren, Annabeth McKay, Hayden Winkler, Betsy Flickenger, Cooper Flickenger, and Whitt Flickenger.
