Jean J. Sands – Obituary

Jean J. Sands, 89, of Madison passed from this life on January 24, 2016 after suffering with Alzheimer’s. She was born in Pinson, AL, and lived, worked, and raised a family in Dothan for 53 years. She worked as a social worker for the state Department of Pensions and Security, now Human Resources, and as a dietician for Southeast Alabama Medical Center. In retirement she volunteered for Flowers Hospital and many years for Catholic Social Service in Dothan, AL.
She is survived by her husband, Harry I. Sands Jr., two sons, Jim Sands of Bellingham, WA and Steve Sands of Lexington, SC, daughter Barbara Combs (Craig) of Madison; eight grandchildren: Tully Sands, Aiden Sands, Courtney Sands Haselden, Martin Sands, Stuart Sands, Patrick Combs, Christopher Combs, and Sarah Combs; brother, Ingram P. Johnson and sister Barbara Barton.
A memorial service will be held Monday, February 1, 2016, 1:00 pm in the day chapel of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Madison with Deacon Greg Thompson officiating.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Catholic Social Service in Dothan, AL or a charity of your choice.
