Jean Eleanor Stone Porter of Sheffield went to her Heavenly Home on Saturday, March 11, 2017.Visitation will be Tuesday, March 14th from 6 to 8 p.m. at Morrison Funeral Home, Tuscumbia. The funeral service will be Wednesday, March 15th at 2 p.m. at First United Methodist Church of Sheffield with Rev. Bill Bedsole officiating. The body will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. Burial will follow in Colbert Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Porter was a native of Sheffield and was a retired secretary from Reynolds Metals, First Methodist Church of Sheffield, TVA and Miley Buick. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Sheffield and Order of Saint Luke, a former Sunday School teacher and former president of the Secretary’s Association. Jean was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend.
Mrs. Porter was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Ben F. Porter, Jr; parents, Elwood Stratton and Mary Ellen Stone; son, George “Michael” Porter; brothers, Frank Edward and Elwood Sidney Stone; and sisters, Dorothy Helen Stone Dodson and Mary Elizabeth Stone.
She is survived by her son, B. Frank Porter III; daughter, Mary Ellen Porter Isom (David); brother, Jack Edwin Stone; grandchildren, Tiffany Isom Stonecipher (Heath) and David Clayton Isom Jr.; great-grandchildren, Madelyn Marie and Benjamen Heath Stonecipher; and lifelong friends, Ruth McLendon and Faye Thompson.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
