Jan Carlton Profile Photo  Janyce Vestal Carlton, passed away peacefully on September 8, 2023, at her residence in Jackson, TN at the age of 93.

She was born on May 29, 1930, in Jackson-Madison County to loving parents the late Olen and Lurlene Holder Vestal.

Jan was a kind and loving individual whose positive impact touched the lives of many. Throughout her life, she dedicated herself to helping others. She found immense joy and fulfillment in volunteering with Hospice of West Tennessee. Through her selfless actions and compassionate nature, she brought comfort and solace to those facing difficult times. Additionally, she actively participated in various organizations such as the MAC Club at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital and the Grace Circle at Browns Church. Jan’s contributions to these groups showcased her unwavering commitment to supporting her community.

Her passion for creativity extended beyond her volunteer work. She generously shared her talent for stained glass by teaching classes as part of the Jackson Parks and Recreation Department. Her thoughtfulness to others was displayed daily through her sending of birthday cards to family, friends, and church members for many years.  Jan’s expertise inspired countless individuals to explore their artistic abilities and embrace new forms of expression.

Outside of her pursuits in community service and artistry, Jan found great pleasure in cooking and baking for her cherished family and friends. Whether it was preparing a warm meal or crafting delectable treats, she found joy in nourishing others both physically and emotionally.

She leaves behind three loving daughters: Tammy Hardee and husband Keith of Jackson, TN; Debra Partlow of Henderson, TN; Teresa Freeman of Humboldt, TN; six grandchildren, Amy Mallette and husband Joe, Chris Istvanko and wife Paige, Daniel Istvanko and wife Hannah, Brandon Hardee and wife Sarah, Trevor Hardee and Cory Hardee and wife Elyse and thirteen great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents Jan was preceded in death by her husband of over fifty year Bob Carlton, her sister, Peggy White, her brother, Larry Vestal and a son-in-law, David Partlow.

SERVICES:  A funeral service for Jan will be held at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 13, 2023, in the chapel of Arrington Funeral Directors, with Rev. Tom Spellings officiating.  Burial will take place in Browns Cemetery following the service.

The family will be receiving friends on Wednesday, September 13, 2023, beginning at 1:00 p.m. and continuing until the service at 3:00 p.m.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Joe Mallette, Chris Istvanko, Daniel Istvanko, Brandon Hardee, Trevor Hardee, and Cory Hardee.

The family is requesting that memorial contributions be directed to Browns Church, 141 McLeary Road, Jackson, TN 38305.

Mrs. Carlton’s legacy is one of kindness, generosity, and love. Her unwavering dedication to helping others leaves an indelible mark on the community she called home. She will be dearly missed by all whose lives she touched.
