janieMrs. Janie E. Smartt, 76, passed away Sunday February 7, 2016 at Erlanger Hospital in Chattanooga. She was born in Coalmont, Tennessee on December 17, 1939. She was a member of the Chestnut Springs Congregational Methodist Church and had been a cook at Tracy Elementary School. She was preceded in death by her father, James H. “Mutt” Nunley; 1st husband, Phillip Douglas Nunley; sisters, Gladys McGee and Elaine Shadrick; brothers, Bill, Charles, Maxie and Clarence Nunley.

She is survived by her husband, Wayne L. “Trick” Smartt; daughters, Rose Campbell, Jeanette (Keith) Lee and Jennifer (Anthony) Sweeton; sons, Randy (Jane) Nunley, Raymond (Candy) Nunley and Clint (Roneta) Nunley; sisters, Jean Nunley, Lois (Doug) Seagroves, Donna (Bernard) Knost, Ruth (Billy) Braden, Pamela (Craig) Nunley and Paula (Barry) Braden; brother, Joe (Ann) Nunley; 18 grandchildren, Kerrie, Jarod, Shell, April, Jason, Jamie, Jessica, Lauren, Kelsey, Justin, Josh, JennaRae, Bella, Jacob, Kaytlin, Trey, Rylee and Jace; 7 great grandchildren, Cayden, Kaylee, Levi, Hannah, Jeffery, Jeremiah and Jenson; a multitude of loving nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Thursday in the funeral home chapel with Minister James Caldwell officiating with burial to follow in the Coalmont Cemetery. Visitation: 4:00 PM – 9:00 PM Wednesday at Layne Funeral Home, Palmer, Tennessee.
