Janet Marie Sparks, 78, passed away on Monday, January 29, 2024 at The Landmark Nursing and Rehab Center. She was born on July 29, 1945 at the Northeast Mississippi Hospital in Booneville. She was a member of the Midway Baptist Church. Janet was Valedictorian and graduate of the 1963 class of New Site High School. She graduated from Northeast MS Junior College in 1965 and Delta State University in 1967 with degrees in English, History, and Elementary Education and began her teaching career at Hills Chapel Elementary School that same year. She also taught at Booneville Elementary School, Iuka High School, and New Site High School where she retired in 1995, teaching was her passion and she loved her “kiddos”. Janet loved crafting, crossword puzzles and spending time with her nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be at 2:00 P.M. on Thursday, February, 1, 2024 at Siloam Church with Bro. Jerry Hooper officiating. Burial will be in the Siloam Cemetery. Visitation will be on Wednesday, January 31, 2024 from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at McMillan Funeral Home and on Thursday, February 1, 2024 from 12:00 P.M. until 2:00 P.M. at the church.
She is survived by her nephews, Greg Sparks (Jennifer), Brad Sparks, Eric Sparks, and Bill Sparks (Shannon); her nieces, Sherry Sparks Gann (Gary) and Stacey Sparks Lindsey; her sister-in-laws, Cheryl Sparks and Ruby Sparks; her great-nephews, Tyler Sparks, Chad Sparks, Matthew Lindsey, McKinley Lindsey, Ross Sparks, and Colton Sparks; her great-nieces, Tiffany Bowling, Emily Volking, Catherine Sparks, and Kaitlyn Sparks; host of great-great nieces and great-great nephews and a special cousin, Faye Garrett.
She is preceded in death by her parents, William Cunningham Sparks and Glada Mae Johnson Sparks; two brothers, Paul Wade Sparks and Dwight Sparks and one niece, Sandy Sparks Gooch.
