Janet Lakeman, age 83, Birmingham, AL. formerly of Haleyville, AL. passed away Friday September 5, 2025.
Janet was born to Doug and Terry Lakeman on August 5, 1942 in Russellville, Alabama. She loved growing up in Haleyville surrounded by friends and relatives. Janet graduated from Huntingdon College majoring in home economics, following in her mother’s footsteps. She went on to get her Master’s Degree in Nutrition from the University of Alabama. Janet was a lifelong avid Alabama fan, as anyone who knew her quickly learned.
Janet worked in Ft Payne and Decatur before going to work for the State Health Department in Jackson, Tennessee where she lived and worked for forty plus years. She has many wonderful friends there, and they had lots of adventures traveling together. Janet retired in 2012 and moved to Birmingham in 2020 to be near family.
She is survived by her brother, Fred Lakeman (Rita); nieces Lori Lakeman Graphos (Ted) and Kaye Lakeman; nephew, Barron Lakeman (Kristin); great nieces Kate Graphos, Peyton Lakeman, Olivia Lakeman, Avery Lakeman; and great nephew, Sam Graphos; and a host of loving friends and relatives.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Doug and Terry Lakeman.
Visitation will be Sunday, September 7, 2025 from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. at Pinkard Funeral Home, Haleyville, AL. There will be a graveside service at 2:30 p.m. at Winston Memorial Cemetery.
