Janet “Jan” McDonald, age 64, of Horton, Alabama, passed away on October 15, 2023, at her residence. She was born on April 19, 1959, to the late Billy and Ruby Bowen, and her life was a testament to love, faith, and family.
Jan was a devoted Christian, and her faith shone brightly through her life. She was a cherished member of Liberty Hill Baptist Church in Horton, where she found strength and community through her unwavering commitment to her faith. Her fellow congregants knew her as a kind and compassionate soul who lived out her beliefs in her everyday actions.
Janet’s legacy lives on through the love she shared with her family. She is survived by her loving husband, Tony McDonald, daughters, Monica (Kelley) Harvey and Andrea (Terry) Gilbreath, grandchildren, Madison Walls and Coleton Walls, sisters, Nan (Jerry) Buchanan, Suzanne (Barry) Clark, and Fran Bowen, as well as her brother, Stan (Veronica) Bowen. Their shared experiences, laughter, and love formed a tight-knit family unit, and their support for one another was a source of strength for Jan throughout her life.
Friends and family are invited to join in the celebration of Janet’s life at her funeral service, which will be held at Liberty Hill Baptist Church of Horton on Thursday, October 19, 2023, at 2:00 pm. Prior to the service, the family will receive friends at the church from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm, providing an opportunity for those who knew and loved Jan to pay their respects and share their memories.
Bro. Neal Chaffin, Bro. Jamie Perigo and Bro. Terry Gilbreath will officiate the service, with Kevin Buchanan, Daniel Bowen, Derick Walls, Terry Gilbreath, Wyatt Woods and Jerome Johnson will serve as pallbearers, a testament to the close bonds Jan shared with those who meant the most to her. Janet’s final resting place will be the Liberty Hill Baptist Church Cemetery.
Janet “Jan” McDonald touched the lives of many with her kindness, warmth, and unwavering love. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all those who were fortunate enough to know her, and her legacy of faith and family will continue to inspire for generations to come.
The McDonald family is accepting flowers, or in lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Shepherd’s Cove Hospice of Marshall County, Liberty Hill Cemetery Funds, or the Marshall Cancer Care Center, in Jan’s memory.
