Janet Alecia Emery, age 73, of Huntsville, Alabama, passed away on Saturday, April 26, 2025, in Huntsville.

Janet Emery was born in Huntsville, Alabama to Herman and Inez Guthrie Taylor Jr. on February 17, 1952. She graduated from Huntsville High School in 1971. Janet was the seventh great-grand daughter of Huntsville founder, John Hunt. Her father and grandfather owned and operated the Ritz Café in downtown Huntsville for many years. Janet was an avid horsewoman who showed Quarter horses as a teen-ager at various horse shows. She lived down the street from Wernher von Braun and rode horses with his daughter Margrit out of the stable at Maple Hill Cemetery. She was a lifetime member of the Huntsville Ski Club and ran numerous ski trips to Colorado and Utah. Janet was a certified Master Gardener, who grew roses as a hobby, competing in state and national Rose shows, winning numerous awards. At one time she had over 250 rose bushes. She loved ice hockey and was a season ticket holder for many years for Huntsville Channel cats. This inspired her to play coed ice hockey in the Huntsville amateur hockey league for several years when she was in her 50’s. She was also a crazy cat lady who rescued abandoned cats and leaves behind five cats.

Janet Emery is survived by her husband of 41 years, David Emery of Huntsville, Alabama.
