Jane S. Wilson died peacefully in her sleep at her Decatur residence on Monday, February 16, 2015. She was born July 30, 1926, in Middlesboro, KY, and later moved to Birmingham where she attended Phillips High School and was a member of the National Honor Society. From there, she attended the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa where she met the love of her life, Walter S “Pete” Wilson. She was a member of the Alpha Delta Pi sorority.
Jane was very involved with both the First Baptist Church of Birmingham and later Brookwood Baptist Church in Mountain Brook, where she attended faithfully from July 1969 to August 2000. She was a very devout Christian woman who read her Bible every day. She was a woman of quiet strength who was smart, faithful, loving, caring, and supportive. She was “there” whenever you needed her, and she was loved and respected by many.
Jane was predeceased by her parents, Frank and Gladys Stopinski; and brothers, Frank Stopinski Jr. and Bernard Stopinski.
She is survived by her daughters, Kathy Wilson Meriwether and Jan Wilson Dean (Sammy); one son, Walter Stuart Wilson Jr (Elizabeth); six grandchildren, Emily Meriwether Horne, Sarah Kathleen Meriwether, Samuel Lynn Dean, Trent Wilson Dean, Andrew Stuart Wilson and Mallory Elizabeth Wilson; and three great-grandchildren, Abigail Elizabeth Horne, Stephen Anthony Horne and Hadley Grace Dean.
Jane was very dedicated to her family and most importantly, put them first in her life. Her family is a living testament of her actions of abundant Love and Caring. She was very involved in their lives attending many, many, many sporting events, recitals and family outings. The Love and Respect her family members hold for her in their hearts are infinite. She is, and will always be, incredibly missed by her family.
Jane will be honored by her friends and family on Saturday, February 21, 2015, at Brookwood Baptist Church, 3449 Overton Road, Mountain Brook, AL 35223. Phone (205) 967-0441. Visitation will be from 12:30 until 1:30 p.m. Memorial service conducted by Dr. Bryant Strain.
