Jane Crawford Welty Jane Crawford Welty, 88, of Huntsville, Alabama, passed away on Thursday, March 14, 2024.  She is survived by her husband, Dr. Ward P. Welty; her son, Ryan Welty (Alison); grandchildren, Margaret Welty, Elizabeth Welty, and Abigail Welty; sister, Pat Norton (John); and sisters-in-law, Miriam Trangsrud of Tucson, AZ; and Harriet Rochefort (Philippe) of Paris, France.

Jane’s received a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Vanderbilt University and a Master of Social Work from Tulane University.  She was employed as a social worker by the Alabama Department of Human Resources in Montgomery, Guntersville, and Huntsville; as a psychiatric social worker at the University of Cincinnati; as a case worker for the Queensland Department of Social Services; and as a tutor in Social Work for the University of Queenland in Brisbane, Australia.

Ward and Jane traveled extensively during their more than 50 years of marriage.  Some of their destinations were as follows: Argentina, Uruguay, South Africa, Morocco, Britain, Ireland, Spain, France, Greece, Italy, Switzerland, Germany, Austria, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Canada, Mexico, and Ecuador.

Jane was preceded in death by her parents, Dr. and Mrs. J.M. Crawford of Arab, Alabama; and by her sister, Mary Tinkler (John) of Chattanooga.

A celebration of life service will be held at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Huntsville at a date to be announced.  Berryhill Funeral home is assisting the family.
