The service remembering the well lived life of Jane will be at 1 PM Saturday December 13, 2025, in the Heritage Chapel of the Ripley Funeral Home with visitation from 11 AM until time of service. A private family burial will be in Falkner Cemetery.
Jane was born on December 3, 1952, in Falkner, Mississippi, and spent most of her life in Marion, Arkansas, where she devoted herself to raising her family and serving her community with grace.
Jane was a 1970 graduate of Falkner High School and earned a two-year degree from Northeast Mississippi Junior College. She worked for Crittenden County for over 30 years, most of that time in the Treasurer’s Office. Jane believed deeply in hard work and loved the Crittenden County Courthouse with her whole heart. She rarely missed a day, showing up with commitment and purpose unless her declining health prevented it. She served faithfully as Deputy Treasurer for more than 20 years, earning the respect and admiration of colleagues and community members alike through her reliability, integrity, and quiet strength.
Jane was a true Southern lady — gracious, classy, and unwavering in her expectations, yet warm, witty, and deeply devoted to the people she loved. She carried her Christian faith with humility and kindness, touching countless lives with her gentle spirit and steady presence. She adored her family beyond measure, and those who knew her will remember her impeccable appearance, her quick wit, and the sincerity she brought to every moment — whether offering a kind word or making it clear she meant business.
She is survived by her children: Jeff Shelton, Jennifer Coltharp Bond and her husband Bud, and her stepdaughter Jamie Coltharp Allsup and her husband Michael. She leaves behind her beloved grandsons, Nathan Shelton and Sam Shelton, as well as one brother-in-law, Billy Hugh Ayers, and many nephews who adored their Aunt Jane.
Jane is preceded in death by her parents, Clark and Wardie Childers; her sister, Linda Joy Ayers; her brother, Ronnie Childers; and her nephew, Steven Bradley Ayers.
Her family takes comfort in the Book of Ruth 1:16–17: And Ruth said, “Don’t urge me to leave you or to turn back from you. Where you go, I will go, and where you stay, I will stay. Your people will be my people and your God my God. Where you die, I will die, and there I will be buried”
The Honorary Pallbearers are Randy Lancaster, Larry Lancaster, Cade Ayers, Michael Allsup, Neal Williams, and Matt Thompson
The family would like to give special thanks to Baptist Reynolds Hospice and special friend Samantha McCallum Payne for the wonderful care they provided to our Mother.
