Jane Ann Evans Blankenship of Huntsville, AL passed away peacefully on June 12, 2019 surrounded by her family. Born in St. Louis, MO to Alma Frances and Willard Evans, she spent her early childhood in Lebanon, IL and moved to Huntsville in 1958. She graduated from Huntsville High School in 1965 and then attended Emory University. She ultimately graduated with Honors and a Math degree from the University of Alabama. She met her husband of 52 years, David, in high school at the YMCA Camp Cha-la-kee and then married in 1967.
After moving back to Huntsville, Jane worked for IBM and Intermetrics as a computer programmer. She later taught middle school math at several local schools and started Garden Clubs for students at both Westlawn and Stone Middle School. She enjoyed volunteering with the Jr. League of Huntsville and was involved in establishing SCAN (Stop Child Abuse and Neglect) which is now part of the National Children’s Advocacy Center. Jane was a faithful Christian spending many years working in the children’s ministry at Mayfair Church of Christ. She loved her morning walking group, Garden Club, playing tennis, traveling and spending time with her friends and family.
Jane Ann was a devoted wife and beloved mother who gave her heart to her family.
She is survived by her husband, David; two brothers, Don Evans (Marilyn) and John Evans (Jenni); son and daughter-in-law John David and Janet Blankenship of Huntsville; daughter and son-in law, Laura and Doug Holliday of Nashville, TN; four grandchildren, Hannah, Nate, Will and Mae Li Blankenship of Huntsville.
Visitation will be from 12 to 2 p.m. Monday, June 17, 2019 at Mayfair Church of Christ with the funeral immediately following. Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery. (www.laughlinservice.com).
