Jan Aldine CherrieJan Aldine Cherrie, 85, of Huntsville, passed away Saturday.

Jan was born in Chili as her father was a mining engineer there. When Jan was young, they moved to Niagara Falls Ontario .Shortly thereafter her father passed away and her care was given over to her aunt and uncle Viola (Poppy) and Clifford (Curly) Stock who lovingly raised her. It was during these years that she met her lifelong sweetheart Stuart. They were married on Jan 30th 1960 and recently celebrated their 61st anniversary. Their life journey brought them and their daughter to Alabama in 1970. Jan’s life was filled with being a devoted wife, raising their daughter, and later being involved with grandchildren and great grandchildren. Jan enjoyed volunteering at the animal shelter in Niagara Falls, she volunteered as a clinic nurse at New Hope School, and she was a volunteer against domestic violence who rode with Huntsville police officers. Jan loved the beach and vacationed yearly with her husband and daughter and later with grandchildren. Stuart and Jan enjoyed several extended vacations that included a cruise, exploring the western United States, and Alaska. Jan relished these memories.

In addition to her husband, Stuart; Jan is also survived by her daughter, Leslee Metcalf, grandchildren, Justin & April Phillips, Heather & Cory Johnson; great grandchildren, Karlee, Kasen and Ryan; brother, Robin & Diane Nagel; beloved family Paul & Catherine Cherrie and David & Jytte Cherrie; and special friends, Tony and Tammy Carlisle.
