Mr. James Yancey McClure, 92, of Florence, passed away Saturday, October 5, 2013 at E.C.M. Hospital. He was a member of Sherrod Avenue Church of Christ, retired from the U.S. Post Office as a mechanic, and he was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII.
Visitation will be Tuesday, October 8, 2013 from 11 – 1 p.m. at Greenview Funeral Home with the funeral service beginning at 1 p.m. in Greenview Memorial Chapel. Officiating will be Kenny Barfield. Burial will follow in Greenview Memorial Park.
Mr. McClure was preceded in death by his son, James Douglas McClure; parents, Irvin Yancey and Myrtle Billingsley McClure; siblings, Claude McClure, Lottie Pepper, Lucille Miles, and Christine McClure.
He is survived by his wife of 69 ½ years, Mary Dowdy McClure; grandchildren, Brian McClure of Columbia, TN, Michael (Jennifer) McClure of Columbus, MS.; several great-grandchildren; and extended family the Lloyd Newton family.
Active pallbearers will be Mark Humphries, Roger Scott, David Webb, David Stutts, Jeff Dowdy, and Doug Murphy.
Honorary pallbearers will be Robert Jenkins, Glen Jenkins, Reggie Bruce, Artie Collins, Edward Behel, Larry Collins, and the Elders of Sherrod Avenue Church of Christ.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Felix Morris, Dr. David Brown, and the nurses and staff at Glenwood Healthcare.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or Sherrod Avenue Church of Christ.
