James William Journey – Obituary

James William Journey, born June 2, 1926, passed away peacefully in Port Charlotte, Florida, on July 9, 2016 at the age of 90.

Mr. Journey was born in Birmingham and married Frances Vaughn of Decatur in 1948, where they lived for many happy years. Mr. Journey served honorably in the U S Army Air Corps during World War II, before going to work for Chemstrand in Decatur. The Journey’s eventually moved to Connecticut, where Mr. Journey spent several decades as the president of Hale Manufacturing, a division of Monsanto. He and Frances later retired to Port Charlotte, Florida.

Mr. Journey is survived by his sister, Anne Draper; brothers, George and Edward Journey, and his daughters, Susan Journey, Carol Schaper and Barbara Munsell, along with grandchildren, Elizabeth, Catherine, Andrew, James, David, Caitlin and great-grandaughter, Lily. Upon his passing, he was reunited with his wife, Frances, and their son, James, who had passed away in 1992.

A memorial service will be held at the Decatur City Cemetery on Aug. 13, 2016, at 11 a.m. Family and friends are welcome. There will be a reception afterwards at the Hilton Doubletree Riverfront.
