James Walter “Jim” Farris – Obituary

James Walter “Jim” Farris, 77, retired employee of Columbia Machine Works and resident of Trotwood Avenue, died Wednesday, December 13, 2017, at Maury Regional Medical Center.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 1:00 P.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Randy Kersey officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends Friday from 4:00 – 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home.

Born January 31, 1940 in Maury County, he was the son of the late Paul Walter Farris and the late Velma Morrison Farris. He was a 1958 graduate of Hampshire High School. Mr. Farris was an employee of Tennessee Knitting Mill for twenty-four years before beginning his thirty years employment with Columbia Machine Works. He enjoyed doing rock work and remodeling houses for rent and resale. He was a member of Highland Church of Christ.

Survivors include his wife whom he married December 24, 1972, Mary Morton Farris of Columbia; daughters, Robin (Clay) Bates and Tammy (Tommy) Carroll, both of Columbia; grandchildren, Maggie Bates, Randy (Erin) Carroll, Coty (Maegan) Carroll; great grandchildren, Madeline Carroll, Ella Carroll, Grayson Carroll, Hadley Carroll; sister, Joyce Green of Tullahoma; and special cousins, Dottie McClearen and Shirley Baker.

Active pallbearers will be Clay Bates, Tommy Carroll, Randy Carroll, Coty Carroll, David Reed, Corky Brown, Scott Helgren, and Gary Beatty. Honorary pallbearers will include members of the 1958 Class of Hampshire High School: lifelong friend Everitt Grimmitt, Barbara Sims Cathey, Lloyd “Rip” Baxter, Rachel Brown Smith, Betty Holden Fisher, Sam Morrison, Linda Runions York, Gail Baker, R. E. Duncan; Rolanda Thurman, Johnny Langston & all employees of Columbia Machine Works; and Byron Harrington.
