James Walter “J.W.” Thomas, 78, of Russellville, passed away Thursday, January 30, 2014, at his residence after an extended illness.

Mr. Thomas was a native of Colbert County, Alabama, but had lived in this area for the past 63 years. He was a member of Eastside Church of Christ, Russellville, and was retired as a meter reader with the City of Russellville Utilities.

The funeral service will be Saturday, February 1, 2014, at 2:00 p.m., at Pinkard Funeral Home Chapel, Russellville, with burial in Franklin Memory Gardens. Officiating will be Johnny Richardson and Randall Hammock. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 12:00 noon until 2:00 p.m.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Grace Johnson Thomas; son, Keith Thomas (Julie); daughter, Cheryl Thomas Ott, all of Russellville; sister, Betty Grant (Scott), Lacey’s Springs, Alabama; grandchildren, Heather Conner (Scott) and Adam Yarbrough (Tiffany).

He was preceded in death by parents, James Everett and Mamie Vandiver Thomas.
