James “Wain” King

Mr. Wain King James “Wain” King passed away at his home on Monday, June 23, 2025. He was 86 years old. Mr. King was born in Henderson County on December 23, 1938, to the late Charles King, Sr., and Thelma Hart King. He was a retired employee of Johnson Controls and had been a member of the National Guard. Mr. King loved yard work, gardening, and playing washers. He enjoyed western movies and collecting guns. He was an avid coon and rabbit hunter, and bred and raised walker coon dogs.
Mr. King is survived by his wife of 23 years, Brenda Johnson King; his son, Steve King (Kay); stepsons, J.C. Maness (Gina) and Louis Maness (Amanda); daughter, Judy Taylor; stepdaughters, Paula Tignor (Howard) and Amber LaRue (Richard); seven grandchildren, thirteen step-grandchildren, and numerous great and great-great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers: Billy Gail King, Charles Jr. King, and Johnny Burress; his first wife, Mae Johnson King; and one great grandchild.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, from 1:00 until 8:30 PM, and on Wednesday from 10:00 AM until 2:00 PM. The funeral will be at 2:00 PM on Wednesday in the Chapel of Pafford Funeral Home, with burial to follow in the Chapel Hill Cemetery.
