James W. “Jimmie” McWilliams – Obituary

F 9.25.18 James W. McWilliams.jpgJames W. “Jimmie” McWilliams, 98, passed away September 23, 2018 at his home in Cherokee.

He was a farmer and a lifelong resident of Colbert County. During World War II he served in the United States Air Force with the 78th Troop Carrier Squadron, stationed in France and England.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Sarah Hughes McWilliams; parents, William C. and Ida McWilliams; stepmother, Cora McWilliams; brothers, Jack and John McWilliams; and sisters, Evelyn Jones and Dorothy Todd.

He is survived by his daughters, Catherine Dorobantu and Linda Willingham; son, Paul McWilliams; sisters, Helen Neff, Marilyn Honn and Sara Lou Tirey; six grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be today, September 25th from 6 to 8 p.m. at Morrison Funeral Home, Cherokee. The family will hold a private burial service on Wednesday, September 26th.

The family wishes to give specials thanks to Hospice of North Alabama and to his caregivers.

In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials be made to the Cherokee Public Library.
