James Travis “Jimmy” Harris, Sr.- Obituary

Funeral services for James Travis “Jimmy” Harris, Sr., age 80 of Lineville, will be held on Saturday, May 18, 2019 at 2:00 P.M. at New Harmony Christian Church with Rev. Jeff Byars and Rev. L.C. Harris officiating. Burial will follow at the Clay County Memory Gardens.

 

Mr. Harris passed away on Wednesday, May 15, 2019 at the Clay County Hospital. He was a native and lifelong resident of Clay County, had worked for several years in the textile industry at Bemiston in Talladega, also operated Jims Place in Delta, was a heavy equipment operator, and pulp wooder and had other various jobs to help take care of his family. He was a member of New Harmony Christian Church and one of his favorite pass times was studying and keeping bees.

 

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Joyce M. Harris of Lineville; three sons: James Harris (Debbie) of Lineville, Chuck Harris (Shellia) of Lineville, and Scott Harris (Lena) of Ashland; three grandchildren: Michael Harris (Bridgett), Savannah Hilyer (Colton) and Matthew Harris; four great-grandchildren: Ashton Grace, Lydia Claire Harris, Cash and Wren Scott; two brothers: Rev. L.C. Harris (Bonnie) of Lineville and Charlie Harris (Helen) of Delta.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Grady D. and Mildred Clyde Walker Harris; two brothers: Dorsey and Linwood Harris

 

Active pallbearers will be: Michael Harris, Matthew Harris, Jeff Nettles, Donald Macon, Johnny Forbus, Stacy Mitchell, Wayne Sims, and Mark Herbert’. Honorary pallbearers will be: Elijah McCormick, Jerry Sassar, Wade Sprayberry, Tommy Crow, Ralph Sanchez, and Phillip Carroll.

 

The family will receive friends Friday, May 17, 2019 from 5:30 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. and until service time on Saturday at Benefield Funeral Home in Lineville.
