James Taylor, Jr. (Jim) was the 2nd oldest of 5 children born to the late James Taylor Sr. and Eula Poole Taylor in Montgomery, Alabama on April 23, 1938.

Jim attended St Jude Elementary School in Montgomery, AL and graduated in 1952. In 1956 he graduated from St Jude Catholic High School. Jim earned a Bachelor of Science degree at age 50 from Athens State College in 1987.

Jim was united in marriage in 1957 to the late Maria Jones Taylor and to this union 3 children were born: Carmen Elisa, Melanie Yvette and Verna Patrice.

He enlisted in the United States Marine Corp on November 28, 1957 completing boot camp at Parris Island, NC. After 24 years of distinguished service to our country he retired as a Master Sergeant E8 on November 30, 1981. During his tour, he served in various places including; Quantico, VA, Camp Pendleton, CA, Vietnam (two tours), and Parris Island, NC. His last assignment was Brig Warden for the Marine Barracks, U.S. Naval Station, Brooklyn, NY. He was affectionately known as “Top Taylor”. Jim was proud of his military service and whenever he encountered a fellow Marine he would say “Semper Fi Marine!”

After his retirement from the Marine Corp he remarried and was united in marriage to the late Faye King July 11, 1980 and relocated to Huntsville, AL. He worked for the City of Huntsville as the City Jail Warden and Probation Officer. He retired from the City of Huntsville after 18 years of service, May 2000.

Jim was devoted to his Catholic faith and faith community. He was baptized on March 29, 1997. He was a member of St Joseph Catholic Parish in Huntsville, AL. . He served in various ministries including Eucharistic Minister, taking communion to the sick and shut in, Adoration Hour on Tuesdays at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus Grand Knight and 4th Degree, St Mary’s Council 4080 and visiting people in nursing homes with his Veteran group.

Jim loved his family and friends selflessly. The walls of his home were covered with family photos that represented a life well lived surrounded by family and unconditional love. He was also passionate about his arsenal of house plants that could be found all throughout his home. He played cards with a group of dear friends every Tuesday and Thursday nights. There was also no bigger Alabama fan, RTR!!!

He is preceded in death by his wife, Faye Taylor, one brother, Johnny Taylor (Francine) of Hamlet, NC and one sister, Dorothy Williams (Sidney) of Montgomery, AL. Cherishing his memory are his survivors: Four children, Carmen Elisa Williams (Calvin) of Montgomery, AL, Melanie Taylor McNary (Blair) of Hoover, AL, Verna Patrice Taylor of Montgomery, AL. Tonya Newell (Kenny) of Thomasville, NC., one brother, David Taylor (Melissa) of Charlotte, NC, one sister, Rita Boone of Baltimore, MD, grandchildren Carl Alden Williams (Utibe) of Chicago, IL, Amber Nicole Williams of Montgomery, AL, Chanise Maria Taylor of Birmingham, AL, Daverne Taylor Atkins of Montgomery, AL , Burgandy Taylor-Lea Craven (Michael) of Thomasville, NC , Tamara Murry(Scott) of Grant, AL., great grandchildren Calvin Alden Williams of Montgomery, AL, Makalya Johnson and Mia Murry of Grant, AL devoted special friend Zeta Chisolm and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.

James Taylor, Jr. will be dearly missed but we do not grieve as if we have no hope because we will see him again. 1 Thessalonians 4:13
