James Sherman Phillips, 86, of Ardmore Alabama passed away on Saturday, June 27, 2026, in Ardmore, Alabama.
He was born on Sunday, July 23, 1939, to Henry Washington Phillips and Susie Elizabeth Whitworth Phillips Metcalf in Madison County, Alabama
James lived most of his life in the Ardmore Area. He is known by all as the absolute best person to know. James had a heart of gold. He was the kind of man who would do anything for anyone-lending a helping hand, offering advice, or simply being a dependable presence. In fact, his family and friends often joked that there was absolutely nothing he could not do or fix. The only exception is he could not quite master flying an airplane, a running joke he loved to share with a warm laugh. Above all, his greatest joy in life was his family. He treasured every single moment spent with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by wife of 64 years, Curley Mae Franklin Phillips, both of his parents, one son, James Phillips Jr., three grandchildren, one great grandchild, six brothers: James Henry Phillips, Lawerence (Edward) Phillips, Robert (Alton) Phillips, Clyde (Junior) Phillips, Billy Ray Phillips, William (Raymond) Phillips, three sisters: Louise Smith, Maggie B. Hopkins, Pauline Armour, two half-sisters; Lula Mae and Elsie
James is survived by two daughters: Donna Phillips, Betty (Lamar) Pigg, two sons: Jerry Phillips, John Phillips, twenty-two grandchildren, thirty-eight great grandchildren, as well as seven great-great grandchildren.
