James “Sam” Dison – Obituary

The graveside funeral service for James “Sam” Dison, age 80 of Clay County, will be held on Sunday, September 30, 2018 at 3:00 p.m. in the Clay County Memory Gardens with Bro. Robert Hugh “Shotgun” Giddens officiating.

Mr. Dison passed away on Thursday, September 27, 2018 in Birmingham. He was a native and life-long resident of Clay County, a graduate of Bibb Graves High School – “Class of 1958”, and had worked for many years as a farmer.

Mr. Dison is survived by his wife of over 50 years, Charles Ann Dison of Clay County; two daughters: Leigh Ann Stinebaugh (Alan) of Prattville and Linda Kay Welch (Jimmy) of Smiths Station; one son, Mark Dison (Jannie) of Clay County; one brother, Carl Dison (Joyce) of Clay County and three grandchildren: Sarah Stinebaugh, Ashtyn Stinebaugh and Cameron Welch and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Miles Pierce Dison and Letha Elvenia Phillips Dison; seven sisters: Mary Usher, Martha Robinson, Margaret Harrison, Berneese McRae, Kathleen Adair, Bessie Thompson and Helen Dison and one brother, John Dison.

Mr. Dison’s nephews and great-nephews will serve as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, September 30, 2018 from 1:00 p.m. until 2:45 p.m. at Benefield Funeral Home in Ashland. Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to The Parkinson’s Association of Alabama – P.O. Box 590146 Homewood, AL 35259, In memory of James “Sam” Dison.
