Funeral services for Mr. James Russell Proudfit, age 87, will be held at 2 PM on Thursday, June 2, 2022 in the Grace United Methodist Church with burial to follow in Gibson County Memory Gardens. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5 PM until 8 PM at Shelton-Hunt Funeral Home and Thursday from 1 PM until service time at the church.
Mr. James (Jim) Russell Proudfit entered his heavenly home on Monday, May 30, 2022 surrounded by his loving family.
He was born on September 27, 1934 in Manor, PA to the late James Henderson and Sarah Anna Cline Proudfit.
He graduated from Greensburg High School in Pennsylvania in 1952. After graduation, he worked a couple of odd jobs until deciding to enter the United States Army Reserves as a Private First Class from December 1956-February 1959. He then worked at General Tire & Rubber Company until 1977 when he moved to Humboldt to start up Wilson Sporting Goods. He then retired from there in 1999.
Jim served on Humboldt’s Development Board. He was also a member of The Sunshiner’s Choir and the Humboldt Music Club. He was passionate about volunteering at the Humboldt Veterans Home for six years and also willingly volunteered at the Helping Hand of twenty years.
He became a member of Grace United Methodist Church in 1982 until his death. He was very dedicated and served as lay leader for twenty years and a Sunday School teacher.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sister Sarah Sarsfield.
He is survived by his wife of thirty nine years, Rachel Proudfit; a daughter Tracy Selph (Terry); two grandsons, Tyler Selph (Chelsea) and Austin Selph (Molly); a granddaughter, Brooke Selph; three great grandsons, Logan Selph, Luke Selph and Xander Selph; and a great granddaughter, Joslyn Selph. He will always be affectionately known to them as Papa.
Pallbearers to serve will be Tyler Selph, Austin Selph, Ricky Hensley, Darren Stavely, Brock Lowrance and Kirk Lowrance.
