James Russell Oliver went to be with the Lord on July 18, 2014, at his residence at the age of 82, surrounded by his family.
He was born in Franklin County, Alabama, on December 2, 1931, to Gona and Shellie Oliver. He was a loving husband, father, papa and friend. He was a long-term member of Gravel Hill Baptist Church, an ordained minister, and a missionary in his own community. He was a farmer, a long-term member of the Cattlemen’s Association, and a life member of the Masonic Lodge #428 in Belgreen, Alabama.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Charlene Oliver and two sons, Tim (Vicki) Oliver and Allan Oliver; seven grandchildren, Jamie (Kristie) Oliver, Brett (Jennifer) Oliver, Brendan (Jessica) Sharp, Heath (Heather) Sharp, Kellie (Cody) Scott, Kellsie (Alex) Ewing, Karlie (Tyler) Roberson; five great-grandchildren, Ethan and Coltan Oliver, Tyne Scott, Aubree Ewing, Hollie Sharp; sister, Bernice (Lee) Bentley, Lodi, Ohio.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Gona and Shellie Oliver and brother, Pete Oliver.
The visitation was held at Pinkard Funeral Home on Saturday, July 19, 2014, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. The funeral service will be held at Gravel Hill Baptist Church, Phil Campbell, on Sunday, July 20, 2014, from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. Lunch will be served at 12:00 p.m. The service will start at 2:00 p.m. Burial will be in Liberty Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Jamie and Brett Oliver, Brendan Sharp, Cody Scott, Alex Ewing, Tyler Roberson. Honorary bearer will be Heath Sharp.
