James "Rod" Payne James Rodney “Rod” Payne, 68 of Jasper, a former longtime resident of Bagley, passed away Friday August 23, 24 at his residence.
Rod was a graduate of Corner High School, class of 1973. He was a member of Sanctuary Church of God in Jasper. He retired from U.S. Steel after 38 years of service. After retirement, he drove a school bus for 10 years for Bagley and Corner schools. He was a member of Brooklin Masonic Lodge #704 F&AM.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jimmy and Shirley Payne and his grandparents, Bart and Lucy Payne and Belton and Marjorie Alvis.
Survivors include his wife of 48 ears, Becky Payne; his son, Bart Payne; his daughter, Kimberly Cunningham and husband Justin; grandchildren, Ava Claire, Livi and Alex “Man” Payne, and Ella Rae and Anna Lynn Cunningham; brother, Tom Payne and wife Stacy; brother-in-law, Terry Fullman and wife Lisa; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services will be Monday August 26, 2024 at 2:00 pm in the New Horizon Memorial Chapel. Pastor Keith Banks and Rev. Lewis Smith will officiate. Burial will follow in McCormack Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12-2 pm.
