James Ray VandiverJames Ray Vandiver passed away at the age of 83 on Thursday, February 13, 2025, at Helen Keller Hospital.

James loved to read novels and especially his Bible. He was all about his animals and he loved his dog, Ariel. He loved working in his garden and worked as a mechanic. In his younger days, he loved to go squirrel hunting and fishing on the boat every weekend. When he married his wife of 50 years, Betty, he also stepped into the position of being a father of seven children and worked hard to take care of his family. His grandchildren were the light of his world.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter C. and Nancy Borden Vandiver, son, David J. Lewis, sister, Christine Vandiver and brother, Johnny Vandiver.

He leaves to cherish his memories, his wife of 50 years, Betty Louise Wiley Vandiver; children, Tena Schneberger (Bill), Rick Lewis (Nicky), Shelly Lewis, Shawn Lewis (Donna), Shannon Lewis (Tiffany), Shane Lewis (Christa), 14 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, siblings, Sue Burnett, Alice Dutton, Earl Vandiver, Donnie Vandiver, Burl Vandiver, and a host of nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be 2:00 till 3:00 p.m. Saturday, February 22, 2025 @ LaGrange Community Senior Center 1672 Waldrep Loop, Leighton, AL 35646
