James R. Cosby, age 73, a resident of Pulaski Hwy in Columbia, passed away Thursday, April 27, 2017 at his residence.

A memorial service will be conducted by special friends on Sunday, April 30, 2017 at 3 PM at Heritage Funeral Home.  The family will visit with friends on Sunday from 12 PM until the service hour.  Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

James was born July 16, 1943 in Piggott, Arkansas and was the son of the late Floyd Cosby and late Dorothy Boyd Cosby.  He retired from Lowes in Columbia after working there for eleven years, was a member of Maury Hills Church of Christ, and was a member of Mynders Community Club. Being a people person, he enjoyed helping anyone with anything that he could possibly do. He also liked to work on tractors.  He was considered a jack of all trades and a master of all.  Most of all, he loved his family and spending time with his grandchildren and his “Baby Girl.”

He is survived by his loving wife of fifty two years: Betty Gibson Cosby of Columbia; sons: Bryce Cosby (Kathy Harper) and David (Kristin) Cosby; grandchildren: Elizabeth Cosby, Alicia Harmon, and Jonathan Harmon; and great grandchildren: Tinsley Cosby and Kinsley Harmon.

Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers: Billy Cosby and Larry Cosby; and grandsons: TJ Cosby and Benjamin Cosby.

A special thanks to Terry and Sue Gibson, Ronnie and Faye Gibson, and Mitch Stegall for all the help and support through all of our difficult times.

The family requests memorial donations be made to the Maury United Ministries (MUMS) 812 N. Main St. Mt. Pleasant, TN 38474, Maury County Harvest Share 419 W. 9th St. Columbia, TN 38401, or the charity of your choice.
