Funeral for Mr. James Preston Bowman, 77, of Hillsboro will be held at noon on Monday, September 23, 2013, at Canaan M.B. Church with the Reverend Ronald Merriweather officiating and inhumation to follow in Calvary Memorial Gardens. The body will lie in repose one hour prior to funeral. The family will receive friends on Sunday evening from 5 to 7 at the Reynolds Funeral Home.
An exceptional husband and father, Mr. Bowman who was affectionately called “Cupcake”, “Biscuit”, “Jamon” and Bowman was born on April 03, 1936, in Lawrence County, Alabama to the late James Frank and Laura Yarbrough Bowman. He departed this life on Wednesday, September 18, 2013, at his residence.
He confessed hope in Christ at an early age and joined David Temple P.B. Church and later united with Canaan M.B. Church, where he remained faithful. He was employed for many years as a truck driver and retired from Wal Mart in 1996. He was a faithful member of the Most Worshipful Prince Hall Grand Lodge of the Free and Accepted Masons of Alabama, local Ascension Lodge #72. He was a United States Army Veteran.
He was a man with a huge personality. He loved life, cooking, gardening, traveling and being with his family. He adored his nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
His memory will forever be in the hearts of his wife, Mary S. Bowman; two children, Dr. Cheryl Bowman of Nashville, TN and Jarrod Thomas Bowman of Decatur; one granddaughter, Shantelle Powell; one great-granddaughter, Azadeh Powell both of Upper Marlboro, MD; six sisters, Emma (Charles) Patton, Joyce Van both of Hillsboro, Dorothy Brooks of Cincinnati, OH, Evelyn Penn of Harvest, Arlene (Willis) Turner and Mary R. Bowman both of Decatur; two brothers, Clifton (Lillie) of New Bern, NC and Charles Bowman of Hillsboro; three God-sisters, Lucinda White of Huntsville, Laura Cayce of Madison, Matilda Faye Thompson of Decatur; six God-brothers, Dale Davis Jr., George (Mildred) Davis, Edward (Rhonda) Davis all of Hillsboro, Ricky (Queen) Davis of Alexandria, LA, Danny (Marie) Davis of Decatur and Michael Davis of Madison; one sister-in-law, Jennetta (Earnest) Perkins of Decatur; two brothers-in-law, Ivory Harris of Hillsboro and Willie (Marcia) Van of Cincinnati, OH and a host of nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.
