James Perry Oswalt – Obituary

Mr. James Perry Oswalt, 73, left this ole world after several years of various illnesses and is walking the streets of gold with Jesus. He was born in Baldwyn, MS on July 25, 1944, to Clint and Zelma Adams Oswalt. He gave his heart and life to Jesus Christ and has been a child of God for over 50 years. He married the love of his life and the mother of his children, Libby Bryan Oswalt on September 10, 1963. To all of the children he was lovingly known as “Dan-Dan”. He was a wonderful husband, daddy, granddaddy, great granddaddy, brother, uncle, cousin and friend.
During his earlier adult life, he was employed by Mid-South Packers for approximately 16 years, until he began working as a skilled automobile mechanic, retiring December 31, 2007. Perry was a longtime member of West Jackson Street Baptist Church.
A service celebrating Perry’s life will be at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, July 29, 2017 in the Tupelo Chapel of Holland Funeral Directors with Bro. Keith Cochran officiating. Private burial will follow in Prentiss County Memorial Gardens at Frankstown. Visitation will be today (Friday) from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and Saturday from 1:00 p.m. to service time.
He leaves his wife of 53 years, Libby Oswalt of Tupelo; children, Carol Curbow who went to be with the Lord on April 13, 1988 at the age of 23; her daughter, Cortney McNatt (Tye McNatt) and their daughter, Avery Carol; Cammie Oswalt Hollaway (Christopher Hollaway) and their daughters, Hannah Harris (Jacob Harris), Samantha Hollaway (finance’ Wesley Harris) and their son Jayden; sister, Maudie Oswalt Buse (Virgil); sisters-in-law, Ann Glover and Clara Surratt; a host of nieces and nephews, and special caregivers who lovingly cared for him during his illnesses over the past several years.
He is preceded in death by his parents, grandparents and daughter; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Howell and Marguerite Murdock Bryan; 3 brothers, Howell Oswalt, Charles Oswalt (Lucy), and Stanley Oswalt (Flossie); brother and sister-in-law, Stan Bryan (Barbara); brothers-in-law, Bobby Glover and Gerald Surratt.

Memorials may be made in his memory to West Jackson St. Baptist Church Building Fund, 1349 W. Jackson St., Tupelo, MS 388801 or to Sanctuary Hospice House, P.O. Box 2177, Tupelo, MS 38803.
