James Paul Layfield – Obituary

James Paul Layfield, of Sheffield, Ala., born Dec. 11, 1944, to James Wallace Layfield and Edith Blythe Layfield. A graduate of Cleveland High School, in Blount County, Alabama, he attended Auburn University before serving in the United States Army Security Agency. A proud Vietnam veteran and a lifetime member of the VFW. JP was married to Victoria Adams Layfield for 44 loving years and has three children, Amber Zietz (married to Erik Zietz, grandson, Otto), James Layfield (granddaughter, Cambridge) and Jay Layfield (married to Trisha, grandchildren, Aaron, Corrin, Jonah, Merijane).
Attained a degree in mechanical engineering and worked as a maching control programmer. He was a local business owner and a fan of John Wayne, the History Channel and football. He enjoyed coffee, Budweiser in bottles and cigarettes.
He was close to his in-laws, Michael Adams, Anthony Adams and Celina Adams-Wake.
He is survived by his two brothers, Roger Layfield and Gary “Shag” Layfield.
The family would like to thank the Safe Harbor united of the VA Hospital; his close friends, EJ Bryant, Jerry Thompson, GW Roach, James Chaney, Faron Head and Kumar. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations made to Safe Harbor at the VA hospital in Birmingham.
Visitation will be 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 27, at Colbert Memorial Chapel. Funeral services to begin at 1 p.m. in the chapel.
