James O. “Jim” Bendall of Hoover, AL passed away on January 12, 2020. Born in Florence on July 24, 1935 to James Albert and Dena Hester Bendall, Jim graduated from Coffee High School, attended Florence State and graduated from Auburn University. He served in the U.S. Army and the U.S. Air Force Reserves.

Jim and his wife Pat, settled in Birmingham where he was employed by Butler Manufacturing, Moore Handley and InRyco before starting Bendall & Co. in 1977 with his brother Lee. He was a member of Delta Sigma Phi fraternity, ASHRAE, Chance Lake Country Club (past president) and Vestavia Hills UMC. Jim was an avid golfer and loved Auburn football.

Jim is survived by his daughter, Valerie Collier (Jeff); grandsons, Wade and Ross Collier; brothers, Lee Bendall and John Bendall; in-laws, Doc Russell, Patsy Bendall, Mary Frances Staton and Karen Sample; and many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins.

Jim was predeceased by his parents; his wife of 56 years, Patricia S. “Pat” Bendall; siblings, Walter Bendall, Dru Newburn, Teen Frye, Glendora Russell, Will Bendall and JoAnn Bendall.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 18, 2020 at Vestavia Hills UMC chapel. Visitation from 10 to 11:00 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to Vestavia Hills UMC, Alzheimer’s of Central Alabama or the charity of your choice.
