James Nelson Burke, age 70, of Big Cove, Alabama, went home to be with the Lord on January 28, 2026.
Born on February 24, 1955, Nelson was the only son of Aubrey and Leona Byrd Burk, growing up alongside his three sisters whom he loved dearly.
Nelson worked for over 30 years as a Quality Control Manager at Machine Craft in Huntsville, Alabama. Known to many as “Bubba” he remained close with his former co-workers long afterward.
His life was changed overnight on August 7th, 1997. By the mercy of the Lord, Bro. Nelson received the sweet Holy Ghost at Big Cove Holiness Church and faithfully lived for Him for 28 years.
Nelson is survived by his devoted wife of 52 years, Brenda Pyle Burke; his daughter, Stacey and husband Bradley Martin; his son, Brian and wife Brittany Burke; his sisters, Libby Beard and Marie and husband Jim Guthrie; and his grandchildren, Mason and Allie Martin, and Brayleigh Burke, along with a host of dear friends from his work and church family, as well as many loving nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his loving parents Aubrey and Leona Burk, Sister Stella Louise Burke Walls and Brother-in-law Ralph Beard.
The family will receive friends on Sunday from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Big Cove Holiness Church. The funeral service will begin at 3:00 p.m., with Bro. Mark Warren and Bro. Josh Trotman officiating. Burial will follow at Green Valley Cemetery.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude for the care, support, food, visits, and especially the prayers during this difficult time. Your love and kindness during Nelson’s passing mean more than words can express. Special thanks are extended to Hospice and his caring nurse, Anna Moseley, for her compassionate assistance in his final days. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
