A memorial graveside service for James Nathan Jones, 42, will be held at the Historic Somerville Cemetery on Saturday, August 2, 2025, at 11:30 AM.
Mr. Jones died on Friday, December 6, 2024, at his residence in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was born Tuesday, August 17, 1982, in Washington to James Cornwall Jones and Carolyn A. Gilchrist Jones.
James earned degrees from the University of Miami and Georgia Institute of Technology. He spent 13 years in the DC area working on Department of Homeland Security, Department of Defense and Department of State contracts. He traveled the globe. He enjoyed wakeboarding on Lake Sammamish and snowboarding at Teton Village. James loved family sailing trips. He fell in love with Florida while at the University of Miami. He enjoyed surfing there and on the California coast. He loved concerts, especially the Winter Music Conference on South Beach. Football and basketball seasons were a time to cheer for Miami and Georgia Tech. His guacamole was always requested at home and gatherings with friends. When he came home, he knew sweet tea and buttermilk pie would be there for him. Family, food and tradition meant everything to him—as he texted before Christmas, “I just want to be with you, have Cornish Hens and Buttermilk Pie.”
