James Michael “Jim” Pittman departed this life for his eternal life on Thursday, June 8, 2023 at his Tupelo residence. He was 66. Born in Clarksdale on Nov. 9, 1956 to the late Robert Daniel Pittman and Doris Jean Brannan Pittman, who survives, Jim spent his adolescent life in Clarksdale and Oxford before the family permanently made Tupelo their home in 1967. Jim attended Tupelo Public Schools and graduated from Tupelo High School in 1973. A creative, adventurous soul, Jim played drums in the High School Band. He developed a love for music, especially 70s tunes and classic rock. Over the years, he became a collector of CDs and had thousands in his home library. Jim enjoyed the outdoors and spent time earlier in life fishing and hunting. He enjoyed travel especially to the beach. A solid Christian, Jim enjoyed going to church and he and his wife, Betty, attended First Baptist Church of Verona for years. Jim spent 36 years working in numerous capacities at Action/Lane Furniture and was recognized for his ability to handle any job there. He enjoyed life and lived it large.
A service celebrating his life will be held at 4:30 PM Sunday, June 11, 2023 from the Sadie Holland Memorial Chapel at Holland Funeral Directors-Tupelo with Rev. Rob Gill officiating. Private family burial will be in Tupelo Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 3:30 PM Sunday until service time. Jim is survived by his wife of 27 years, Betty Ruth Moore Pittman of Tupelo; his daughters, Afton Danielle Johnson, Amanda Rebecca Barnett (Mark), Lisa Cole (Chris), and Michelle White; her siblings, Margaret Peel (Hal) and Bob Pittman (Paula); 13 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews and their families.
