James Michael Grider of Scottsboro passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by loved ones on October 15, 2023.

Michael was born in Taft, Tennessee on September 13, 1952, and was a gifted storyteller, especially known for his love of sharing his memories and inspiring words with all. He loved God, his family and friends with his whole heart. He enjoyed the outdoors, music, genealogy, the Blue Ridge Mountains, bird watching and rarely missed a sunrise. Michael had an easy way with people and was always able to make a connection. He will be remembered for his messages to love one another and F.O.A.M.S. – Faith of a Mustard Seed.

Michael is survived by his wife Glenda Manning Grider; daughter Lori (Starbuck) Laney; grandchildren Owen, Evan, and Nola; sisters Gayle Maliskey, Regina Pipes, Rita Woosley, and Vickie (Spike) Myers; a multitude of nieces and nephews; and many beloved friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents Aubrey and Jerusha Grider; his brothers Perry Grider and Hurley Grider; his sisters Mazie Grider, Bessie Banks, Darlene Swing, and Billie Johnson; and his Parent in Laws Cecil and Annie Mae Manning.

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects to Michael at the visitation on Wednesday, October 18th from 5-9 PM at Scottsboro Funeral Home. On Thursday, October 19th, a funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM at the same location.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Pinson Hospitality House in Nashville (https://hhhnashville.org/donate/) (214 Reidhurst Ave Nashville, TN 37203) in honor of Michael.
