James Mack (J. M.) Burns – Obituary

JamesJames Mack (J. M.) Burns of Iron City, TN, was born January 28, 1937 in Florence, AL, the son of the late Jim Mack and Emma Roberson Burns. He was united in marriage to Von Harper on November 9, 1957.

Mr. Burns was retired from Lincoln Brass Works, Waynesboro, TN, was a member of Masonic Lodge #702 in Collinwood, TN for over 50 years, was a member of Burns Chapel Freewill Baptist Church, Iron City, Tennessee, and was a United States Navy veteran serving from 1955 until 1959.

Mr. Burns departed this life on Sunday, September 15, 2013 at E. C. M. Hospital, Florence, Alabama at the age of 76 Years, 7 Months, 18 Days.

He is survived by his wife, Von Harper Burns, Iron City, TN; a son, James Ray (Jimmy) Burns and wife, Sherea, and grandchildren, Jason and Emily all of Florence, AL; sister, Mrs. Cleo Dixon and her daughter, Judy Fox both of Oklahoma City, OK.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Burns was preceded in death by his stepmother, Pearl Burns, a sister, Ruth Anderson, and a nephew, E. W. Beasley.

Services will be Wednesday, September 18, 2013 at 1:00 PM at Burns Chapel Freewill Baptist Church, Iron City, Tennessee, with Edward Burbank and Emerald Bailey officiating. Burial with military rites will follow in the Railroad Cemetery, Iron City, Tennessee with Shackelford Funeral Directors, Wayne County, directing. Pallbearers will be Danny Roberson, Stephen Putman, James Putman, Kenneth Thompson, Larry Rich, and Don Hale.

His body will be placed in the church one hour before the services.

Visitation will be Tuesday, September 17, 2013 from 6 pm to 9 pm at Shackelford Funeral Home, Collinwood, TN.
