James M. “Mervin” Monroe – Obituary

The funeral service for James M. “Mervin” Monroe, age 72 of Ashland, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 27, 2019 at Benefield Funeral Home in Ashland with the Reverend Nathan Paschel officiating. Burial will follow in the Pleasant Hill Methodist Protestant Bible Church Cemetery.

Mr. Monroe passed away on Sunday, February 24, 2019 at Brookwood Medical Center in Birmingham. He was a native and life-long resident of Clay County and had worked for a number of years for the Clay County Commission as a dump truck driver and bush hog operator. Mr. Monroe had also worked for Anderson Trucking Company. He enjoyed trading horses, coon hunting and was a loving father, grandfather and uncle.

Mr. Monroe is survived by his son, Justin Monroe (Kristen); two granddaughters: Autumn Hurt and Riley Monroe; one sister, Lorene Monroe, all of Ashland plus a host of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents: Arthur and Jessie Monroe and a great-niece, Miranda Crawford.

Dustin Monroe, Matthew Riley, Steven Williams, Justin Lowery, Ronnie Whited and J. J. Williams will serve as pallbearers.
